Mountain Hawks Edged by Saint Joseph's 5-4 in Midweek Matchup

Lehigh dropped a back-and-forth 5-4 affair to Saint Joseph's Wednesday afternoon at Leadership Park. A two-out RBI single by sophomore Kelly Fricker staked the Mountain Hawks to a 4-3 lead after six innings, but Meghan Sinkus' two-run home run in the seventh put the visiting Hawks ahead for good. Lehigh put the tying and winning runs on base in the seventh but was unable to reclaim the lead.

Lehigh took an early 1-0 lead in the first inning as junior Holly Lovett singled home Fricker, but the Mountain Hawks left the bases loaded in the frame.

A Lehigh error led to two unearned runs in the fifth as Saint Joseph's (22-19) tied the game on a Gianna Muhaw sacrifice fly and then took the lead on a triple by Elyssa Hasapis.

The Mountain Hawks answered with two runs of their own in the bottom of the fifth, as senior Sydney Parlett singled home Fricker and then junior Peyton Sward scored as part of a double steal with senior Crysta Duenas.

Jenna Currie's RBI double tied the game at 3-3 in the top of the sixth, before Fricker singled home senior Abbey Tabaka in the bottom of the frame.

Kasi Loser led off the seventh with a double to right center and Sinkus followed by drilling her first home run of the season out to left center to put the Hawks up 5-4.

Lovett drew a leadoff walk in the home seventh and the Mountain Hawks had runners at first and second with one out after a Saint Joseph's error, but Marla Freiwald struck out first-year Lola Fasano and then got Tabaka to fly out to right field to end the game.

Both teams had eight hits, while Saint Joseph's committed three errors and Lehigh made two.

Sophomore Madison Finnerty started in the circle for Lehigh and allowed three runs (one earned) on six hits over 5.1 innings. Finnerty struck out four and hit one batter. Moorman took the loss allowing two runs on two hits.

Ava Farina earned the win for Saint Joseph's with four innings of three-run relief. She struck out three and did not walk a batter, while Freiwald picked up the save.

Lehigh is off from league play this weekend and the Mountain Hawks are slated to play three games at a tournament hosted by Rutgers, beginning with a single game against the host Scarlet Knights Friday at 3 p.m.
