Mountain Hawks Smash Personal Records in Two Meet Weekend

Lehigh men's track and field split their team in two for the weekend of April 3 and 4. Part of the squad traveled to Princeton University to face off in the Sam Howell Invitational, and the rest of the team stayed locally to compete in the Muhlenberg Outdoor Invitational on Friday.

Mountain Hawks Smash Personal Records in Two Meet Weekend

PRINCETON, N.J - Lehigh men's track and field split their team in two for the weekend of April 3 and 4. Part of the squad traveled to Princeton University to face off in the Sam Howell Invitational, and the rest of the team stayed locally to compete in the Muhlenberg Outdoor Invitational on Friday.

Sam Howell Invitational

The Mountain Hawk jumpers came away with a handful of top performances in Princeton. Daniel Givens had the best placement, taking third place in the triple jump. The senior leaped 14.43 meters, four tenths of seconds better than he has ever jumped outdoors, and tied his all-time personal best. Jaden Ferguson had a pair of top seven finishes in the high and long jump events. The sophomore placed fourth in the long jump, clearing 6.96 meters, and seventh in the high jump, clearing the two-meter bar. Nic Rossi also cleared the two-meter bar, but placed eighth due to needing more attempts. This was the highest the senior has jumped in his career by five centimeters. Konstantinos Panagopoulos placed right behind Ferguson as well in the long jump, as he placed fifth with a 6.91-meter leap.

It was a personal best filled day for sprinters Cole Swick and Eddie Moore, who set new personal records in both the 100 and 200 meter events. Swick lowered his personal best to 21.62 in the 200. The first-year placed sixth overall and now sits as the sixth fastest 200 meter runner in Lehigh history. This was his debut race in the 100, where he ran 10.96 and placed 23rd. Moore placed ninth in the 200, where he lowered his personal record by .81 seconds to 21.86. In the 100, the senior ran 10.80 to place 16th. His time earned him the eighth place spot on Lehigh's all-time outdoor performance list.

Wil Jaques was Lehigh's top performing thrower. The senior placed third in javelin with a 61.64-meter throw.

Alex Heidemann and Aidan LaTourette ran in the elite field of the 800 meter race. Heidemann ran 1:51.78 to place sixth, and LaTourette placed 18th by running 1:55.51.

Ryan Baker placed eighth in the unseeded section of the 5000 meter. The junior ran 14:42.58.

In the 3000 meter steeplechase, Connor Manlinger placed 10th overall. The senior ran 9:25.98, a personal best by almost five seconds

Lehigh had a top 12 finisher in each of the sprint hurdle events. Nick Bressi placed 11th in the 400 meter hurdles, winning his heat in the process. The sophomore ran 54.19, which was a 1.61-second personal best. Nathan Oliphant placed ninth in the 110 meter hurdles, crossing the line at 14.88.

Muhlenberg Outdoor Invitational

The Mountain Hawks won both of the flat distance events in Allentown. Lehigh swept the 5000 meter run, with all three runners setting new personal records. Dylan Cunningham won the event, crossing the line at 15:08.15. Placing as the runner-up was Sawyer Macy. The first-year finished just behind his teammate, finishing at 15:08.15. Charlie Butler rounded out the top three, running 15:17.82. Ryan Macom was the 1500 meter champion, winning the event in a personal best 4:04.91. Thomas Arnold took the third and final podium spot, running 4:10.42. First-years Garrett Hyneman and Jacob Nedimyer also earned top finishes, placing fifth and sixth, respectively. They finished within five hundredths of a second of one another, with Hyneman's 4:11.59 just edged out Nedimyer's 4:11.64.

Lehigh had another winner in the shot put, with Joseph Nowakowski coming away victorious. The senior threw 16.38 meters, an outdoor personal record that moved him up to sixth of Lehigh's all-time outdoor performance list. Nowakoski was also the highest placing Mountain Hawk in both the hammer and discus throws, placing third in each event. He threw 41.40 meters in hammer, and 40.03 meters in discus. Josh Porter placed just behind his teammate to place fourth in the hammer throw, tossing the weight 40.59 meters.

In the other two distance events, Lehigh had first-years place fourth in each. Mekhi Britt finished fourth in the 800 meter, running 1:59.48 in his first collegiate outdoor half-mile race. Evan Weber ran 10:21.98 to place fourth in his first college 3000 meter steeplechase race.

Jacob Chernin earned two top ten places in the horizontal jumping events. The sophomore jumped a personal record 13.14 meters to take third in the triple jump. He leaped 6.15 meters in the long jump, placing seventh.

Neves Hoose set a personal record in the pole vault, clearing the 3.50 meter bar for the first time. The sophomore placed eighth.

Lehigh divides its squad again next weekend. The Mountain Hawks will head to Bucknell to compete in the Bison Outdoor Classic on April 11-12, as well as Piscataway, N.J. to compete at Rutgers Relays on Saturday, April 11.
