Women's Lacrosse Falls to Boston University 13-4 on Senior Day

LEWISBURG, Pa. — Bucknell women's lacrosse fell to Boston University 13-4 in its final home game of the regular season at Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium. The Bison are now 9-5 overall and 5-3 in the Patriot League with a potential home quarterfinal game on the line with one-game left to play in the regular season.

LEWISBURG, Pa. — Bucknell women's lacrosse fell to Boston University 13-4 in its final home game of the regular season at Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium. The Bison are now 9-5 overall and 5-3 in the Patriot League with a potential home quarterfinal game on the line with one-game left to play in the regular season.

Boston University held the momentum through the first half as it rode a 4-0 scoring run to a 5-3 lead at the break. The Terriers then used the second half to extend its lead and earn a 13-4 road win to clinch a playoff berth.

Boston out-shot Bucknell 23-16 overall and 12-9 in shots on goal. Elle Stevenson led the Terrier scoring with four goals and one assist. Caleigh Cummiskey led the Bison in scoring with two goals in the contest. Caroline Sheridan and Regan Sansiviero rounded out Bucknell scoring with one each. Megan Krestinski led the Bison in assists with two on the afternoon.

Despite the loss, Bucknell won the ground ball battle 19-14 and the draw control battle 10-9. Jess Leon and Kate Hearns led the Bison in ground balls with four each. Juliana Pagano led Bucknell in draw controls with five.

The Bison recorded 21 turnovers to the Terriers 18. The caused turnover battle ended an even 12-12. Anna Cornell led Bucknell with three.

Regan Sansiviero opened her Senior Day game with a quick goal off of the draw and then Julia Dembowitz followed that up with a senior save as she got the start in goal for the Bison. About four minutes later, Jayne Feeney tied it up with a seemingly unintentional shot that just found its way to the back of the net, making it 1-1 with 10:07 left in the first. The Terriers then found two more goals to end the quarter up 3-1.

After four minutes of scoreless play to open the second, Boston University extended its scoring streak to four with a man-up goal making it 4-1 with 11 minutes left in the first half. A couple minutes later, Bucknell went on a 2-0 run to cut it to just a one-goal deficit as Megan Krestinski found a cutting Caroline Sheridan for a goal and then Caleigh Cummiskey converted on a free-position goal. Tessa Geddes then got one back for the Terriers on a man-up free-position goal to make it 5-3 in favor of Boston at halftime.

Cummiskey got her second free-position goal of the game to cut the deficit back to one, but Boston answered with a 3-0 run across six minutes of play to go up 8-4 with 5:09 remaining in the third quarter which is a lead they would take into the final 15 minutes.

The Terriers extended its scoring run to 8-0 with five straight in the fourth quarter.

Bucknell women's lacrosse will end its regular season on Thursday, April 23 at 6 p.m. as they take on Loyola (Md.) on the road.
