HAMILTON, N.Y.- Bucknell Softball's tournament hopes were dealt a fatal blow with a doubleheader loss to hot-hitting Colgate (26-24, 12-5 Patriot League) on Saturday. The Bison (9-34-1, 6-11 Patriot League) fell 8-0 (5) and 6-1 to the Raiders, who currently sit second in the conference. Lafayette, who owns the head-to-head tiebreaker with the Orange & Blue, defeated Lehigh in two games to eliminate the Bison from tournament contention.

Game One Recap

Colgate, which entered the game with a conference-high 79 home runs, used the long ball strategy to run-rule the Bison in five innings.

Sarah Zimmerman started the game and tossed two scoreless innings before the Colgate bombs began flying. A leadoff walk, the bane of Bucknell's season, commenced the process. A single and a sacrifice bunt set up second and third. Marina Taveras launched a three-run homer. Lily Haluska walked and Kayla Martin jacked a two-run blast for the 5-0 lead.

Payton Hale entered the circle in the fourth inning. Alexa Acker led off with a double, advanced to third on a wild pitch, and scored on a sacrifice fly.

Colgate ended the game in the fifth inning. Two walks and two singles accomplished the deed.

Game Two Recap

Avery Powers received the start in game two and overcame a shaky first inning to record a quality outing.

Once again, a leadoff walk proved deadly. Nora Megenity drew the free pass. Two fly outs followed before Megenity stole second. A pitch hit Haluska. Martin delivered a two-run double and Tealla Rivera smacked an RBI single.

Powers kept Colgate in check until Mea Consentino replaced her in the fifth inning. Colgate greeted the new pitcher with back-to-back doubles for the first run. A hit by pitch and a single loaded the bases. A sacrifice fly and a fielder's choice scored the next two runs.

Bucknell broke through for a run in the sixth inning. Haley Speicher singled and Barbara Jo Coppola lined a double past the left fielder to score the speedy slapper.

No late rally materialized for the Bison and Bucknell fell for the second time.
