Ephs begin 2026 season at Ithaca
ITHACA, N.Y. - This weekend, the Williams College men's crew team opened its spring season in a big way at Ithaca College's Cayuga Inlet Invite. Conditions were solid throughout the day, with a slight headwind in the morning and a slight tailwind in the afternoon. Over nine races, the Ephs lined up against crews from Marietta, Ithaca, RIT and University of Rochester, seeing success from all boats.
ITHACA, N.Y. - This weekend, the Williams College men's crew team opened its spring season in a big way at Ithaca College's Cayuga Inlet Invite. Conditions were solid throughout the day, with a slight headwind in the morning and a slight tailwind in the afternoon. Over nine races, the Ephs lined up against crews from Marietta, Ithaca, RIT and University of Rochester, seeing success from all boats.
The first race of the day was the first varsity eight against Ithaca College. Williams started the day off strong, winning with a time of 5.58.0. The Bombers clocked 6:12.3.
The second eight came next with its own bout against Ithaca, crossing the line first in 6:03.7. Ithaca's crew put down a 6:29.1.
The fourth eight mixed things up with a dual against University of Rochester. The Ephs came out on top, going 6:35.2 compared to University of Rochester's 6:57.9.
Following, the Williams' third varsity 4+ B bested a four from Marietta. The Ephs crossed the line with a time of 7:08.5. The Pioneers clocked 7:25.5.
In the last race of the morning, the Ephs' third varsity 4+ A and fifth varsity 4+ defeated Ithaca, putting down times of 6:58.4 and 7:24.8, respectively. The Bombers crossed the line with a 7:35.5.
After a break, Williams got back on the water for the afternoon. The first eight kept the ball rolling, defeating Marietta with a time of a 5:51.7 compared to the Pioneers' 6:00.3.
In the following race, the Ephs' second and third eights took on Marietta's second eight. The Williams' second eight crossed the line first with a time of 5:59.5, followed by Marietta (6:12.2) and the Williams' third eight (6:13.9).
Next was the Ephs' fourth eight against the RIT and Ithaca second eights. In an exciting race, Williams finished first with a time of 6:21.67. Ithaca (6:25.44) and RIT (7:00.20) followed.
Lastly, the Williams' fifth varsity 4+ raced Marietta and University of Rochester B in a fours bout. Marietta won with a time of 7:08.0. The Ephs (7:25.2) and University of Rochester (7:53.5) followed.
After a full day of racing, assistant coach
Patrick Dent had this to say about the results: "Williams men's crew started off the season with a great whole team performance. From a mature showing from the first varsity crew down to great debut performances by our novice rowers in our lower boats, the squad showcased its fitness and skill on the water. Lots to feel optimistic about for the weeks ahead."
Next weekend, the Ephs will head to Worcester, Massachusetts, to race at the Donahue Cup.
