BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Colgate Softball first-year infielder
Marina Taveras has been named the Patriot League Rookie of the Year, headlining the Raiders' five All-League honorees announced Tuesday afternoon.
Taveras became Colgate's third Patriot League Rookie of the Year in the last six seasons. She garnered All-League Second Team honors with first-year pitcher Kelcie McGraw, while junior Nora Megenity, first-year Kayla Martin, and sophomore Lily Haluska landed First Team laurels.
Taveras on Top
A Fort Worth, Texas native, Taveras has rewritten the program record books in a historic debut season. She set new single-season marks in home runs (14), runs scored (47), RBIs (44), and total bases (114) while slashing .359 with a .422 on-base clip and 1.105 slugging mark.
The four-time Patriot League Rookie of the Week becomes the program's seventh Rookie of the Year—and the third under head coach Marissa Lamison-Myers. Having started all 51 games at second base, Taveras anchored an infield and an offensive lineup that continues to shatter school records.
Megenity Keeps Rewriting the Record Book
Megenity is coming off one of the best regular seasons in program history. The junior outfielder, who has started every game in center field, has shattered single-season records in home runs (21), hits (69), runs scored (50), and total bases (142).
The Atlanta, Ga., product was a three-time Patriot League Player of the Week. As the leadoff hitter, Megenity leads the team in batting average (.399), OPS (1.274), hits (69), runs (50), home runs (21), total bases (142), slugging percentage (.821), and on-base percentage (.453).
First-Year Martin Lands First Team Honors
Martin, the only first-year to earn First Team honors, led the team with a .490 average, 1.597 OPS, 1.000 slugging percentage, and .597 on-base clip against Patriot League opponents. In 18 games, she posted 24 hits, including seven doubles and six homers, with 23 RBIs.
On the season, Martin holds a .353 batting average with 49 hits, including 15 doubles and 10 home runs, to go with 42 RBIs and 24 runs scored. She's coming off Patriot League Player and Rookie of the Week honors after slashing .625 in the three-game sweep of Bucknell.
Haluska Brings Home First Team Laurels
Haluska, a sophomore catcher, has started every game behind the plate and owns a .331 batting average on the season. Out of the cleanup spot, she has eclipsed the program's single-season RBI total, leading the team with 53 on the season.
One of five players with an OPS over a thousand, Haluska has racked up 50 hits with 10 doubles, and her 14 home runs are tied for second on the squad. Defensively, Haluska sports a .993 fielding percentage and has 14 would-be base stealers.
McGraw Making Moves
Kelcie McGraw, first-year pitcher, has emerged as one of Colgate's top options in the circle. She leads the team with 14 wins and enters the tournament with a 4.03 earned run average. McGraw has 11 complete games, three shutouts, and three saves in 132.0 innings pitched.
She has struck out at least five batters in each of her last three starts, including nine in a complete game victory against Lafayette (4/24). McGraw struck out a career-best 11 batters and pitched all 10 innings in the walk-off victory against Army on April 4.
Most All-League Honors Since 2011
Colgate's five All-Patriot League honorees are its most since 2011 (six). This year's 27-win team has matched 2011 for the most wins since 2004 (34), and their 13 Patriot League wins (13-5) were their most since going 16-3 en route to the regular-season title in 2011.
