Taft '27 swims in 100 freestyle finals on last day of NCAA championships

INDIANAPOLIS – Hamilton College's

Nathaniel Taft '27 finished in fifth place in the consolation final (13

th overall) in the men's 100-yard freestyle on the fourth and final day of the 2026 NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships inside IU Indianapolis' IU Natatorium on Saturday, March 21.

Taft posted a time of 44.33 seconds in the consolation final. His opening split was 10.11 seconds and he covered the final 25 yards in 11.26 seconds. Taft recorded a time of 44.24 seconds in the morning's preliminary heats. He ended up with an identical finish in the 50 free at the NCAA championships on March 18.

The Continentals landed in 19

th place out of 26 teams in the women's 400 free relay, but set a team record with a time of 3:27.86.

Jade Matthias '26, who led off the relay, had the team's fastest 100 split time of 51.12 seconds. Matthias was joined by

Carolyn Miner '27, Chloe Lan '28 and

Paige Wielgus '28. The previous record of 3:28.99 was set in 2023 and matched at the 2026 NESCAC championships.

Matthew Chang '28 finished in 28

th place in the men's 200 backstroke with a time of 1:49.18. Chang obliterated his previous season-best performance of 1:51.31.

Charlotte Sorensen '28 was 37

th in the women's 200 back in 2:05.23. And like Chang, Sorensen improved on her previous best time this season of 2:06.05.
