Track Teams Kick Off Spring Season at Wesleyan's Swanson Invitational

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – The Bowdoin College outdoor track & field team enjoyed a strong season-opening performance at Wesleyan's Swanson Invitational on Saturday in a packed field that included 18 schools.

Men's Meet Highlights The Polar Bears were impressive in the 5000 meters, where Ulysses O'Rourke led a 1-2-3 finish with a winning time of 15:42.49. Elliott Fontaine followed closely behind to claim second place in 15:48.78 with Henry Sacco in third (15:51.20). Joseph Phillips claimed double hurdles wins, earning first in the 110 (15.22) and the 400 (55.66). Matthew Servin took the 800m race (1:55.98) while Ashton Dunlap came away with the 10k event (33:11.74). Bowdoin's 4x400 relay team of Ronan O'Flaherty, Douglas Bogle, Will Davis, and Noah Rockey delivered a runner-up finish in 3:25.34. Kane Demers paced the sprint group with a third-place finish in the 200 meters (21.93), while Lorenzo Shields took fourth in the 100m in 11.07. Women's Meet Highlights Catherine Uwakwe was first in the 400 hurdles (1:05.47) and was runner-up in the 100 event (15.35) while Andrea Becker won the 10k race in a time of 39:56.68. The Polar Bears got a win from Audrey Stevens, who captured the 800-meter crown in 2:22.41 with Leta Griffith taking third place in 2:23.55. Bowdoin also went 1-2 in the pole vault, with Sophie Maguire taking the win at 3.35m (10' 11.75") followed by Belle Gibowicz's second place showing at 3.05m (10' 0"). In relay action, Bowdoin added a pair of runner-up finishes. The 4x100 relay team of Sophia Young, Kennedy Kirkland, Anna Kim, and Juliette Coley sprinted to a second-place result (49.17), while the 4x400 relay squad of Coley, Khan-Farooqi, Jenkins, and Schubert also claimed second (4:13.76). Bowdoin's distance group was led by Gwen Purnell, who earned a third-place finish in the 5000 meters with a time of 18:39.88. Up Next The Polar Bears will travel to Rhode Island next weekend for the Bryant University Invitational.
