Bear Beats: Episode 35, For Competition Through May 3

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The Bear Beats is a weekly release that will be posted on Mondays to provide a look back at the past week of action and to preview the events for the upcoming week. The 35th episode for the 2025-26 year will feature men's and women's outdoor track and field, men's and women's tennis, and softball.

  • WashU will be sending athletes to a trio of meets this weekend across two states

  • The Bears will send a number of competitors to the St. Francis Fighting Chance Invite on Friday, May 8 and Saturday, May 9.

  • Other athletes will compete on Friday, May 8 at both the Sycamore Open hosted by Indiana State and the Billy Hayes Invitational hosted by the University of Indiana.

No. 3 Women's Tennis

  • WashU will host an NCAA Tournament Regional at the Tao Tennis Center this weekend, Thursday, May 7 through Saturday, May 9.

  • The Bears will welcome in No. 14 Kenyon, No. 30 Grinnell, No. 33 Hope, No. 40 Ohio Northern, Rose-Hulman, and Wheaton (Ill.) to St. Louis.

  • WashU will begin its defense on Friday, May 8 at 10 a.m. against the winner of #33 Hope and No. 40 Ohio Northern; that match is being played on Thursday, May 7 at 10 a.m. CT.

No. 4 Softball

  • WashU is on the road for the final weekend of the regular season at Emory

  • The Bears and Eagles will play a single game on Friday, May 8 at 3 p.m. ET and a doubleheader on Saturday, May 9 at 12 p.m. ET

  • Last season WashU swept Emory in the three-game series in St. Louis.

No. 14 Men's Tennis

  • WashU has earned a spot in the NCAA Tournament this season and will travel to Granville, Ohio this weekend.

  • The Bears will have a first round by and will take on No. 31 Kalamazoo in the second round on Saturday, May 9 at a time to be determined.

  • Host and No. 2 Denison also earned a first-round bye and will play the winner of No. 32 Carthage and Illinois Tech on Saturday, May 9.

  • The Regional final will take place on Sunday, May 10.
