No. 2 Men’s Crew Sweeps All Four Races to Open the Spring Season at WPI’s Class of 2003 Cup
The No. 2 Wesleyan men's crew team opened the spring season with a dominant showing on Saturday morning, sweeping all four races at Lake Quinsigamond in WPI's Class of 2003 Cup. This marks the fourth straight season and fifth time in the last six years that the Cardinals have won the Class of 2003 Cup title.
WORCESTER, Mass. – The No. 2 Wesleyan men's crew team opened the spring season with a dominant showing on Saturday morning, sweeping all four races at Lake Quinsigamond in WPI's Class of 2003 Cup. This marks the fourth straight season and fifth time in the last six years that the Cardinals have won the Class of 2003 Cup title.
Competing against No. 7 Colby, No. 8 WPI, No. 11 Hamilton, and Vassar, the Cardinals swept the field with the Varsity 8 turning in a blistering time of 5:48.67 that bested the runner-up Colby by eight seconds. Colby clocked in at 5:56.67 while WPI crossed the line in 6:04.27, Hamilton placed fourth (6:07.87), and Vassar finished in fifth (6:17.17). Teams had a moderate tailwind with a floating start on a sunny Saturday morning in Worcester.
Wesleyan's 2
nd Varsity 8 fought off Colby in the closest finish of the four races with a time of 6:00.9, besting the Mules' 2V8 boat by two seconds.
The most-convincing performance on the day was the 3V8 boat that clocked in at 6:10.6, besting the runner-up Colby by 10.8 seconds. The Cardinals rounded out the morning with a 3.7 second win in the 4V8 race as Wesleyan's boat clocked in at 6:05.
Wesleyan is back in action on Sunday morning with an 8:30 AM start against MIT on the Charles River in a dual race against the Engineers who compete at the Div. I level.
