Women’s Golf Opens Spring Season with Third Place Finish in the Hartford Blackledge Invitational

The Wesleyan women's golf team opened the spring season with a solid showing in the Hartford Blackledge Invitational on Saturday from the Blackledge Country Club. Wesleyan carded a +23 to finish in third place out of six teams in the field. The Cardinals finished ahead of No. 22 Babson (+29) while Wesleyan was just two strokes behind No. 13 Middlebury for second place. No. 15 Wellesley won the 18-hole event with a +16.

HEBRON, Conn. – The Wesleyan women's golf team opened the spring season with a solid showing in the Hartford Blackledge Invitational on Saturday from the Blackledge Country Club. Wesleyan carded a +23 to finish in third place out of six teams in the field. The Cardinals finished ahead of No. 22 Babson (+29) while Wesleyan was just two strokes behind No. 13 Middlebury for second place. No. 15 Wellesley won the 18-hole event with a +16.

Grace Wu '29 paced the Cardinals with a +4 (76) on the day as she worked her way to 14 pars, seven on both the front 9 and back 9. Wu birdied the par 4 9

th hole while she was just one stroke off the first place finishers Sarah Yeh and Grace Sun from Wellesley. Wu's 76 was good enough for a tie for third place.

Mia Rodgers '29 was right behind in a tie for seventh place as the first-year shot +5 (77) on the day with 10 pars and two birdies. Both of Rodgers' birdies came on par 5's as she birdied the par 5 7

th and par 5 12

th holes. Rodgers performed well on the par 3's, recording a par on all four.

Amanda Phillips '28 was the next-highest finisher on the player leaderboard for Wesleyan as the sophomore shot +6 (78) in a round that featured 10 pars and two birdies. Phillips shot +1 on the front 9 with seven pars and a birdie on the par 4 6

th hole. She then birdied the par 5 12

th on the back 9 before finishing +6 on the day.

Rounding out the scoring for the Cardinals was

Mia Holbrook '27 as the junior recorded a +8 (80) with 10 pars and one birdie. Also in the field for Wesleyan was

Kayla Howell '26 who shot +12 (84) while

Rosie Leonard '26 (+13), Leela Kenwood '29 (+14), and

Mia Bardinelli '26 (+18) all competed as individuals on the day.

Wesleyan is back in action next weekend at the Jack Leaman Invitational hosted by Amherst from April 11-12.
