#17 Women's Lacrosse Falls at #3 Wesleyan, 11-8

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – The 17

th-ranked Trinity College Women's Lacrosse team suffered an 11-8 setback to third-ranked Wesleyan University, 11-8, in a New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) tilt at Smith Field Wednesday evening. The Bantams move to 8-4 overall and 4-3 in conference, while the Cardinals sit at 10-1 on the season and 6-1 in conference.

What Happened:

• After nearly seven minutes of scoreless play, the Cardinals offense popped off with four goals in the final eight-plus minutes of the first quarter, featuring a pair of goals from Elle Priesing.

• A tally from Lily Acerra got the Bantams on the board with 12:39 remaining in the second quarter, but Wesleyan used goals from Bridget Horst and Dylan Green to maintain a 6-1 advantage.

• After a goal from Sarah Marvin set the score at 6-2, Addie Cummings scored in the final seconds of the first half and the opening minute of the second half to hand Wesleyan an 8-2 lead.

• The Bantams offense kicked into gear with a three-goal spurt, paced by a goal from Kaeley Zito and a pair from Marvin to trim the gap to 8-5 with 4:27 remaining in the first half. Green and Marvin exchanged strikes in the final three minutes of the third to put the score at 9-6 heading to the final frame.

• The Cardinals kept the Bantams off the scoreboard in the fourth, using goals from Cummings and Priesing to secure the 11-8 victory.

• Marvin led the Bantams attack with a team-high four points on a team-high three goals and an assist.

• Zito recorded three points with a goal and a team-high two assists, Acerra had a goal, and Grace Denious and Alex Lesko added an assist each.

• Greed paced Wesleyan with a game-high five points with two goals and three assists. Priesing and Cummings potted three goals apiece, while Mya Waryas and Becca Dibble dished out two assists each.

• Alison MacDougall stopped seven shots for the Bantams, while Izzy Weintraub made seven saves for Wesleyan.

Up Next:

• The Bantams will look to return to the win column when they travel to Hamilton College (4-7, 2-5 NESCAC) for a conference clash at Steuben Field on Saturday, April 11 at Noon.

• Trinity has won two of their last three meetings, including a 14-7 win in Hartford last season.
