Fourteen Bobcats Score as No. 20 Bates Cruises Past Emerson, 22-6

LEWISTON, Maine — Playing through steady snowfall at Garcelon Field, No. 20 Bates College men's lacrosse erupted for 12 first-period tallies and rolled to a 22–6 victory over Emerson on Tuesday evening. The Bobcats improved to 4-0 on the season, with 14 different players finding the back of the net in the decisive win.

LEWISTON, Maine — Playing through steady snowfall at Garcelon Field, No. 20 Bates College men's lacrosse erupted for 12 first-period tallies and rolled to a 22–6 victory over Emerson on Tuesday evening. The Bobcats improved to 4-0 on the season, with 14 different players finding the back of the net in the decisive win.

Emerson struck first with a pair of early extra-man scores to take a 2–0 lead just under two minutes into the contest. Bates responded emphatically.

Xander Frey opened the Bobcats' scoring at the 12:08 mark.

Riley McClure tied the game at 2–2 moments later off an assist from

Jack Goldbach, and

Connor Hartman followed with a man-up score to give Bates its first lead.

From there the Bobcats continued to pour it on, with

Rye Kushner,

Gray Doyle, Goldbach,

Henry McCann (game-winner), and

Miles Schmidt all adding first-quarter tallies. McClure's second goal of the period capped the surge and gave Bates a commanding 12–2 advantage after the first 15 minutes.

The Bobcats added seven more goals in the second quarter to extend the margin to 19–3 at halftime. Hartman began the scoring in the frame, while McCann and

Charles Lowe helped fuel a late flurry. Lowe scored three times in a span of just over a minute late in the quarter, part of a five-point night that included three goals and two assists.

** **Liam Rule also recorded three assists for Bates.

Emerson (1-4) scored three times in the third period, but Bates maintained firm control behind a balanced attack and strong defensive effort. The Bobcats outshot the Lions 51–22 and held advantages in ground balls (61–41) and faceoffs (21–11).

Bates added three goals in the fourth quarter, including tallies from

Jack Wright,

Max Kosicki, and

Jake Anastas to close out the scoring.

In net,

Andrew Toland — the reigning NESCAC Player of the Week — earned the victory (4-0) after playing the opening 15 minutes and making one save.

Noah Wood followed with six saves over the second and third quarters in his collegiate debut, while

Nolan Deehan handled the final period.

Bates returns to NESCAC play this Saturday when the garnet and white hosts Trinity at 1:00 p.m. on Garcelon Field.
