Biria and Zou to Represent Women's Tennis at Individual Singles Championships

CHICAGO -- The University of Chicago will send a pair of women's tennis student-athletes to represent the Maroons at the NCAA DIII Individual National Championships in Chattanooga, Tennessee from May 22-25. Sarena Biria earned a spot in the singles tournament as the #8 ranked singles player in NCAA Division III. The ITA Central Region Champion and UAA Women's Tennis Player of the Year will enter the NCAA Tournament with a 24-9 singles record, leading the team in singles wins this season. Biria has tallied a 7-2 record against nationally-ranked opponents, and she has won seven consecutive matches to end the season, six of which came against nationally-ranked opponents. This season, the Kansas City, Kansas native has picked up wins over the #3 player from WashU, the #8 player from WashU, the #22 player from Carnegie Mellon, the #31 player from Holy Cross, the #37 player from Brandeis, and the #41 player from Kenyon.

Clara Zou also earned a spot in the 2026 NCAA Singles National Championships after entering the field as the #23 player in NCAA Division III. The reigning Singles All-American selection enters the NCAA Tournament with a 15-8 singles record. The sophomore has tallied a pair of wins over nationally-ranked opponents and a 4-4 record against regionally-ranked foes, including wins over the #15 ranked player from WashU and the #22 ranked player from Kenyon.

The two individual singles national qualifiers for the Maroons marks the 10th time in program history that UChicago has had multiple singles players selected to the NCAA Individual National Championships. It also marks the 17th consecutive year, dating back to 2008, that the Maroons have had a player qualify for the singles draw of the individual national championship tournament.

The draw for the individual championships will be done by the women's tennis committee during the week leading up to the individual championships, and it will be released no earlier than 12 PM CT on Friday, May 21.
