Biria and Brisotti Headline UAA Awards, Seven Maroons Earn All-UAA Honors

CHICAGO -- The University of Chicago women's tennis team continued their successful season as the Maroons raked in the All-UAA awards, as announced by the University Athletic Association on Wednesday morning.

CHICAGO -- The University of Chicago women's tennis team continued their successful season as the Maroons raked in the All-UAA awards, as announced by the University Athletic Association on Wednesday morning.

Sarena Biria highlighted the awards as she was named the UAA Women's Tennis Player of the Year. Biria was the lone UChicago player to earn 1st-Team All-UAA honors as she has recorded a 24-9 overall record in singles play in her junior year. The Kansas City, Kansas native is ranked as the #2 overall player in NCAA Division III and the #1 ranked player in both the Central Region (ITA) and Region VI (NCAA). Biria earned her second ITA Singles All-American honor this season after winning the ITA Central Region title in singles play, and she has tallied a 7-2 record against nationally-ranked opponents on the year.

After taking over the head coaching position in an interim role in August, Head Coach

Matt Brisotti earned UAA Coach of the Year honors. Brissoti led the Maroons to its fifth consecutive UAA Championship and a 16-4 record on the season and a 12-2 record against Division III opponents. The Maroons are riding a nine-match win streak after taking down #37 Brandeis, #6 Carnegie Mellon, and #2 WashU en route to their fifth consecutive UAA Championship. UChicago has also taken down #2 WashU, #7 Pomona-Pitzer, #8 Kenyon, #46 Holy Cross, and #63 UW-Whitewater on their current win streak. The Maroons are 7-2 against top-10 teams this season with their only Division III losses coming to Clearmont-Mudd-Scripps, both in the Indoor National Championships and on their spring break trip. In his first year coaching both the men's and women's teams, Brissoti did not miss a beat as he improved his overall coaching record to 82-12 between both teams.

Anika Paul was the only University of Chicago player to earn All-UAA honors in both singles and doubles as she earned 2nd-Team honors in both disciplines. The Warren, New Jersey native has tallied a 13-10 singles record and a 15-7 doubles record on the year. She has also picked up a pair of nationally-ranked singles wins in her last two matches against the #17 ranked player from WashU and the #40 ranked player from Carnegie Mellon. Paul enters NCAA Tournament play as the #19 ranked player in NCAA Division III and the #3 ranked player in the Central Region.

Brooke Pedersen earned 2nd-Team All-UAA honors in singles play for the third consecutive season. The San Anselmo, California native has tallied a 9-2 singles record and a 1-0 doubles record on the year, and she has won six consecutive singles matches entering the NCAA Tournament.

Charlotte Klein brought home 2nd-Team All-UAA honors in doubles for the first time in her career. The Bethesda, Maryland native has tallied a 2-2 singles record and a 16-8 record on the year.

Isabelle Chong was named an Honorable Mention All-UAA selection in singles for the first time in her career. The Lake Forest, Illinois native has tallied a 19-5 singles record and a 3-4 doubles record on the year.

Tina Kintiroglou also brought home Honorable Mention All-UAA honors. The freshman duo has a 5-1 record as a team this season, including a ranked win over the #18 ranked team from WashU. Overall on the year, Zawaneh has recorded an 11-7 singles record and a 13-12 doubles record, and Kintiroglou has tallied a 12-10 singles record and a 16-8 record in doubles play.

The University of Chicago women's tennis team wrapped up the regular season as the #2 ranked team in the country, winning its fifth consecutive UAA title, and earning the #2 overall seed in the 2026 NCAA Division III Tournament. The Maroons will travel to Saint Peter, Minnesota, this weekend for the Regional round of the NCAA Tournament where they will play the winner of #64 Luther and Illinois Tech on Saturday morning.
