Men's Tennis Rakes in Seven All-UAA Awards; Brisotti Named Coach of the Year

CHICAGO -- The University of Chicago men's tennis team continued their successful season as the Maroons raked in the All-UAA awards, as announced by the University Athletic Association on Wednesday morning.

CHICAGO -- The University of Chicago men's tennis team continued their successful season as the Maroons raked in the All-UAA awards, as announced by the University Athletic Association on Wednesday morning.

Matt Brisotti completed his Coach of the Year sweep, earning UAA Coach of the Year honors in both men's tennis and women's tennis. Brisotti led the Maroons to a record of 18-3 overall and on a nine-match win streak. The Maroons won their fourth UAA title in program history with wins over #62 Rochester (4-0), #16 Emory (4-1), and #6 Case Western Reserve (4-1) to seal the title. UChicago has also picked up wins over #5 Case Western Reserve, #6 Johns Hopkins, #8 WashU, #11 Carnegie Mellon, #16 Pomona-Pizter, and #34 UW-Whitewater on their nine-match win streak. The Maroons have only lost one match since February 22 with a 13-1 record in that span, and their only losses this season have come to #4 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, #11 Babson, and DII #13 Grand Valley State. Brisotti improves his all-time men's coaching record to 66-8 with an .891 win percentage.

Alexander Ekstrand brought home his second consecutive 1st-Team All-UAA honors in singles play. The Delray Beach, Florida native has compiled a 16-3 record overall and a 13-8 record in doubles play for the Maroons. Ekstrand is ranked #25 in NCAA Division III, #9 in the ITA Central Region, and #3 in NCAA Region VI, and he enters the NCAA Tournament on an eight-match singles win streak. He also holds a 5-1 record against nationally-ranked opponents this season, with wins over the #18 player from Tufts, the #26 player from #34 UW-Whitewater, the #44 player from Emory, and the #48 player Johns Hopkins twice.

Emil Grantcharov earned his fourth-career All-UAA selection after 1st-Tea,m All-UAA honors in singles for the second time. The New Rochelle, New York native has finished the year with a 15-7 singles record and a 7-5 doubles record. Grantcharov is ranked #8 in NCAA Division III, #2 in the ITA Central Region, and #2 in NCAA Region VI, and he enters the NCAA Tournament on a six-match singles win streak. He also holds a 6-2 record against nationally-ranked opponents this season, with wins over the #7 player from Denison, the #8 player from Carnegie Mellon, the #11 player from Pomona-Pitzer, the #12 player from Emory, the #34 player from Johns Hopkins, and the #27 player from Case Western.

Ajer Sher tallied his first career 1st-Team All-UAA honors in singles after leading the team with 21 singles wins on the year. Sher has recorded a 21-7 record in singles play with wins over a pair of nationally-ranked opponents, including wins over the #24 player and the #50 player from Emory. Entering the NCAA Tournament, Sher is riding a four-match win streak with wins over Emory, Rochester, Carnegie Mellon, and Case Western Reserve.

Shrikeshav Murugesan was the lone UChicago player to earn All-UAA honors in both singles and doubles. The Edison, New Jersey native brought home 1st-Team All-UAA honors in singles, and he added 2nd-Team All-UAA honors in doubles. In singles play, Murugesan capped off the season with an 11-5 singles record and a 15-10 doubles record, and he earned three wins over nationally-ranked opponents with wins over the #3 player from Denison, the #22 player from Case Western, and the #63 player from Holy Cross. Murugesan enters the NCAA Tournament ranked #15 in NCAA Division III, #5 in the ITA Central Region, and #1 in NCAA Region VI.

Gopal Koduri teamed up with Murugesan to earn his first career 2nd-Team All-UAA honors in doubles. The Plano, Texas native wrapped up the season with a 1-2 record in singles and a 12-7 record in doubles, finishing perfect against ranked opponents on the year. Koduri took down the #3 overall doubles team in the country with a 6-1 win against Babson for one of his three regionally-ranked wins this season. Koduri enters the NCAA Tournament with wins in six of his last seven doubles matches, including a win over the #10 player in the Central Region from Case Western.

Robert Zhang rounded out the All-UAA awards after bringing in 2nd-Team honors. Wong and Zhang both picked up their first All-UAA honors afdter combining to go 9-4 overall on the year. The team has won six consecutive matches to enter the NCAA Tournament, with four of those six wins coming against top-16 teams. Wong and Zhang also hold a perfect 5-0 record at #3 doubles where they finished the season for the Maroons.

The University of Chicago men's tennis team wrapped up the regular season as the #1 ranked team in the country, winning its fourth UAA title in program history, and earning the #2 overall seed in the 2026 NCAA Division III Tournament. The Maroons will host the Regional round of the NCAA Tournament where they will take on the winner of #44 Luther and #67 Rose-Hulman on Friday at 10 AM CT.
