#20 Women's Lacrosse Falls to Colorado College
CHICAGO -- The 20th-ranked University of Chicago women's lacrosse team dropped a heartbreaking 15-14 overtime game to Colorado College on Thursday afternoon at Stagg Field.

UChicago came out of the gates firing on all cylinders as
Kaylin Oey scored the opener in just 39 seconds, and
Avery Song quickly doubled the lead on an assist from
Caroline Steinwachs. UChicago stretched the advantage to 4-0 later in the quarter with a pair of goals in the first 18 seconds with a goal from
Peyton McGuire and a second goal by Song that was assisted by
Kelly Callaghan.
The Tigers answered back with a pair of goals, but the Maroons responded with five more goals of their own to stretch the lead to 9-2. Steinwachs netted three goals in the seven minutes, Song added her third for the hat trick, and
Grace Hopkins added her first goal of the game.
Wynne Boggan added her first goal of the game to stretch the lead to 10-3, but Colorado College scored the final two goals of the half to cut the lead to 10-5 at the halftime break.
In the second half, Boggan scored her second, but Colorado College answered with three consecutive goals to cut the lead to 11-8. UChicago responded with back-to-back goals by Song and McGuire of their own to extend the lead back to five.
The Tigers continued to carry the momentum into the final quarter with a pair of goals to close the third quarter and a pair of goals to open the fourth quarter, cutting the lead to one at 13-12.
Song scored her fifth goal of the game with 7:21 to put the Maroons back up by two, but Colorado College came up huge in the final minute with two goals in the final 35 seconds to send the game to overtime. In the extra period, the Tigers won the opening draw and took advantage, scoring the game-winning goal just 43 seconds into the overtime period.
Avery Song led the Maroons with five goals, while
Caroline Steinwachs added three goals and one assist.
Peyton McGuire and
Wynne Boggan each recorded two goals, with Boggan also contributing two assists.
On the defensive end, Boggan led the team with four ground balls and nine draw controls.
Kali Konstantinakos also added two ground balls and two caused turnovers.
Lily Brill added five saves in goal for the Maroons.
With the loss, the Maroons fall to 9-5 overall on the season. UChicago will return to action on Friday, April 24 as they host Hope College in the regular season finale.
