McGuire Scores Six to Lead #21 Maroons over Firebirds

KENOSHA, Wis. – The 21st-ranked University of Chicago women's lacrosse team took down Carthage College in a midweek matchup on Wednesday night. After jumping out to an early dominant lead, the Maroons never looked back, cruising to a 17-6 road win.

KENOSHA, Wis. – The 21st-ranked University of Chicago women's lacrosse team took down Carthage College in a midweek matchup on Wednesday night. After jumping out to an early dominant lead, the Maroons never looked back, cruising to a 17-6 road win.

The Maroons controlled the game from the opening draw, using an explosive first quarter to build their advantage. Within the first minute of the game,

Wynne Boggan put the Maroons on the board off an assist by

Kaylin Oey. Within the next few minutes of the quarter, UChicago scored seven more goals to take an 8-0 lead after one. Boggan, Oey, and McGuire each had two or more goals in the quarter, as

Grace Hopkins scored one.

The momentum carried into the second quarter as McGuire connected off a Boggan assist just 38 seconds in.

Avery Song added a free-position goal at 12:52, and

Caroline Steinwachs scored off a Hopkins assist to stretch the lead to 11-0. Carthage got on the board to make it 11-1, but McGuire answered with a free-position goal late in the half, sending UChicago into the break ahead 12-1.

The Firebirds opened the third quarter scoring, but the Maroons responded yet again behind McGuire, who converted on another free-position opportunity to make it 13-2.

Coco Rigoli added her own free-position goal at 5:24, and

Charlotte Semlies finished off a feed from

Sora Choi in the final minute to push the lead to 13.

Song netted her second goal of the night early in the fourth quarter off a Boggan assist to make it 17-3. Carthage fought back to add three late goals, but the Maroons' early lead was too much to overcome.

McGuire led all scorers with six goals, three assists, and nine points on the night. Boggan finished with three goals and two assists, and Oey tallied two goals and two assists while tallying three draw controls. Song also recorded two goals, as a total of eight different Maroons recorded a goal in the win.

The Maroons will head home to prepare for a Friday night matchup at home. They'll take on UW- La Crosse at 7 p.m.
