Hot Start Leads #21 Women's Lacrosse Past Pioneers
WAUKESHA, Wis. -- The 21st-ranked University of Chicago women's lacrosse team rolled past Carroll (WI) on Wednesday night for a 19-8 victory over the Pioneers.

UChicago got off the bus with nothing but goals on their mind as the Maroons scored the first nine goals of the game against the Pioneers.
Avery Song scored the opening goal on an assist from
Kaylin Oey in under 100 seconds, and
Peyton McGuire quickly doubled the lead on another assist from Oey.
Song added her second goal on the free position shot just two minutes later. Then, the Maroons scored three goals in the next 90 seconds.
Wynne Boggan scored her first goal on another assist from Song,
Coco Rigoli scored her first goal on an assist from
Kailee See, and McGuire scored again on Song's third assist to stretch the lead to six.
Song scored her second free position goal of the day just one minute later, and
Caroline Steinwachs added back-to-back goals to cap off the 9-0 start. The Pioneers scored their first goal with 1:16 remaining in the quarter, but Steinwachs added her third consecutive UChicago goal in the final 30 seconds to take the teams into the quarter break with a 10-1 lead for the Maroons.
The Maroons opened the second quarter with back-to-back woman-up goals from Boggan and McGuire, and
Elizabeth Fitzgerald scored her second goal of the season to take a 13-3 lead into the half.
UChicago added three more goals in the third quarter from Boggan, McGuire, and Steinwachs. In the fourth quarter, Boggan scored her fourth goal of the game off an assist from
Sora Choi, and Oey scored her first goal of the game on an assist from
Kaila Van Cott.
Grace Hopkins then put the finishing touches on the victory with a goal on an assist from
Cameron Lienhardt to seal the 19-8 victory.
Peyton McGuire,
Wynne Boggan, and
Caroline Steinwachs all led the team with four goals each, and
Avery Song added a hat trick with a team-high three assists.
On the defensive end,
Emily Sensenich led the team in her first career start with 5 ground balls and 4 caused turnovers.
Lily Brill made two saves in goal, and
Kate Snyder added one.
With the win, the Maroons improve to 7-4 on the season. UChicago returns to action on Wednesay for another midweek CCIW matchup as the Maroons take on Carthage on April 8.
