Last Comeback Not Enough as #18 Women's Lacrosse Falls to MIT
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- The 18th-ranked University of Chicago women's lacrosse team suffered its second consecutive loss in the Boston area as the Maroons came up short in a 10-9 defeat to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

MIT jumped out of the gates with a pair of goals in the first two and a half minutes thanks to a UChicago yellow card, but the Maroons battle back with a goal from
Peyton McGuire to cut the lead to one. After another goal for the Engineers,
Wynne Boggan and McGuire found the back of the net again to tie the game at three. MIT added the final goal of the quarter to take a 4-3 lead after one.
MIT continued to add to their lead in the second quarter as the Engineers outscored the Maroons 4-1 in the next 15 minutes. The lone UChicago goal came from
Avery Song on an assist from McGuire, but the Maroons entered the half trailing 8-4.
Boggan added the opening goal of the third quarter for UChicago, but after 12 minutes of scoreless action, the Engineers would extend the lead back to four as the teams combined for just two goals in the third period.
The UChicago comeback began in the fourth quarter as
Kelly Callaghan scored with 13:55 to go and Boggan finished off her third goal on an assist from
Nicoletta Tsiamis to cut the lead to two. After MIT added another insurance goal with nine minutes to play,
Coco Rigoli scored her second goal of the season on an assist from Callaghan and McGuire scored her third goal of the game with 4:42 remaining, cutting the lead to one.
McGuire had a great chance for the game-tying goal with 3:33 remaining, but the MIT keeper came up with another save. Then, following a stop by the UChicago defense, the Maroons had one final chance to level the score with the ball and 53 seconds remaining. McGuire had another shot saved, and
** **Kaylin Oey had a great look on the final shot of the day with just two seconds remaining, but the ball rattled the post and bounced out, ending the UChicago comeback with a 10-9 win for MIT.
Peyton McGuire led the team with three goals and an assist, and
Wynne Boggan also added a hat trick with three goals.
Lila Porzio led the defensive attack with six ground ball pickups and four caused turnovers.
Caroline Steinwachs also grabbed a team-high four draw controls. In goal,
Lily Brill made eight saves with 10 goals allowed in the loss.
With the loss, the Maroons fall to 4-3 overall ont he season. UChicago will return to action on Sunday afternoon as the team kicks off a three-game home stand by hosting the College of Saint Benedict Bennies on Sunday at 1 PM CT.
