Regan and Roper Named 1st-Team All-District; McGrath Named NABC District Coach of the Year
CHICAGO -- Shane Regan and Nick Roper, a pair of University of Chicago men's basketball players, earned their spots on the NABC All-District teams and head coach Mike McGrath was named the District VIII Coach of the Year, as released by National Association of Basketball Coaches last week.

Mike McGrath was named the District VIII Coach of the Year, as released by National Association of Basketball Coaches last week.
Shane Regan earned 1st-Team All-District honors as the catalyst of the UChicago offense this season with a team-high 19.5 points and 5.3 assists while also grabbing 4.7 rebounds per game. In conference play, Regan was even better with averages of 20.9 points, 6.1 assists, and 5.8 rebounds per game. Regan also earned 1st-Team All-Region honors from D3hoops.com earlier last week.
Regan tallied three double-doubles in UAA play, and he recorded the first triple-double in University of Chicago men's basketball history with 12 points, 11 assists, and 10 rebounds in a win at Rochester. Shane caps off his season ranked top-10 in several single-season stat categories in UChicago history including 3rd in Assists (154), 3rd in Points (565), 3rd in FG Made (201), and 5th in Free Throws Made (130).
Nick Roper joined Regan on the All-District 1st-Team as the graduate student also earned a 2nd-Team All-Region selection from D3hoops.com earlier this season. Roper has scored 15.0 points per game and grabbed a team-high 7.2 rebounds per game to lead the Maroons this season. He has also hit 56.6% of his shots this season which ranks as the eighth-highest field goal percentage in single-season history at the University of Chicago.
In addition to his hot shooting in the late, Roper is shooting 39.3% from long range with 22 triples on 56 attempts so far this season. The St. Louis, Missouri native has tallied career totals of 1,288 points scored and 574 rebounds, and he wraps up his career ranked in the top-80 among all active players in NCAA Division III in both categories.
Head Coach
Mike McGrath was named the NABC District VIII Coach of the Year after leading the Maroons to one of the best seasons in University of Chicago basketball history with a 24-5 record overall and a 11-3 record in UAA play. McGrath led UChicago to the National Quarterfinals for just the second time in program history, and their 24 wins finish tied for the second-most wins in program history, tied with the 1997-98 and 2000-01 seasons. UChicago fell to #5 Mary Washington 81-73 in the National Quarterfinals in Fort Wayne this past weekend.
