KANSAS CITY -- University of Chicago graduate student
Shane Regan was named to the Bevo Francis Top 25 Watch List for the 2025-26 season, announced by the National Awards Committee and Small College Basketball on Sunday afternoon.
The Bevo Francis watch list is comprised of the top players from NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III, NAIA Division I, NAIA Division II, USCAA and NCCAA. This marks the first time in the nine-year history of the award that the Maroons have had a player named to the top-25 watch list. Regan was joined by teammate
Nick Roper on the top-100 watch list earlier this season.
Shane Regan has been the catalyst of the UChicago offense this season with a team-high 19.4 points and 5.3 assists while also grabbing 4.7 rebounds per game. In conference play, Regan was even better with averages of 20.9 points, 6.1 assists, and 5.8 rebounds per game. Regan has tallied three double-doubles in UAA play, and he recorded the first triple-double in University of Chicago men's basketball history with 12 points, 11 assists, and 10 rebounds in a win at Rochester. Shane currently ranks top-10 in several single-season stat categories in UChicago history including 3rd in Assists (149), 4th in Points (542), 5th in FG Made (194), and 6th in Free Throws Made (122).
Regan is one of seven Division III players to be named to the top-25 watch list. He is joined by Luke Chicone (John Carroll), Sam Grieger (UW-La Crosse), Ben Pearce (Emory), Kyle Robinson (Mary Washington), Zevi Samet (Yeshiva), and Jevon Yarbrough (Hood).
The Clarence "Bevo" Francis Award is presented annually to the player who has had the finest overall season within Small College Basketball. The winner will be chosen based on season statistics, individual achievements, awards, personal character and team achievements. Francis attended the University of Rio Grande from 1952-1954 where he averaged 50.1 points per game and scored 1,954 in his first year where he led the Red Storm to a perfect 39-0 record, despite the team finishing just 4-19 in the prior year.
The finalists will be announced on April 4 and the winner will be announced on April 6.
The Maroons are having one of the best seasons in University of Chicago basketball history with a 24-4 record overall and a 11-3 record in UAA play, and they have reached the National Quarterfinals for just the second time in program history. The 24 wins are tied for the second-most wins in program history, tied with the 1997-98 and 2000-01 seasons, and they are three wins shy of tying the 1919-20 team that finished 27-8 for the most wins in a season. The Maroons are also making their first National Quarterfinal appearance since 2001 when they fell to Illinois Wesleyan 77-68 in Chicago.
UChicago returns to action on Thursday night as the Maroons take on #5 Mary Washington at 9 PM ET at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum in Fort Wayne, Indiana with a trip to the National Semifinals on the line. The game can be streamed exclusively on ESPN+ and fans can listen live for free with our student-run radio broadcast on YouTube.
