No. 6 Women's Lacrosse Cruises Past Bridgewater, 19-3

BRIDGEWATER, Va. – The sixth-ranked Washington and Lee women's lacrosse team scored seven first-quarter goals and never looked back in a 19-3 Old Dominion Athletic Conference victory over Bridgewater College on Saturday afternoon at Jopson Field. The Generals (11-2, 6-0 ODAC) controlled the game from the opening draw, using a balanced offensive attack and strong possession play to remain unbeaten in conference action, while the Eagles (6-6, 1-2 ODAC) were led by a standout individual effort from Paige Mayers.

The Generals (11-2, 6-0 ODAC) controlled the game from the opening draw, using a balanced offensive attack and strong possession play to remain unbeaten in conference action, while the Eagles (6-6, 1-2 ODAC) were led by a standout individual effort from Paige Mayers.

Game Summary

Washington and Lee jumped out quickly, scoring four times in the opening four minutes to build a 7-0 first-quarter lead. Hannah Van Son led the early surge with three goals, including the 100th of her career, while Katie Reed, Grace Kim and Carleigh Taylor also scored.

The Generals extended the lead to 10-0 in the second before Bridgewater answered late, as Paige Mayers scored twice to make it 10-2 at halftime.

W&L pulled away in the third with a 3-0 run, highlighted by two goals from Kelly Polacek, and maintained control the rest of the way. The Generals closed the game with five fourth-quarter goals, including scores from Lara Baki, Nora Hamilton and Alexandra Simon.

Baki's goal also marked the 100th point of her career, giving Washington and Lee two milestone scorers in the victory.

Individual W&L Performances

  • Hannah Van Son led all scorers with five goals and broke two milestone marks this week. Van Son tallied her 100th goal today on the first score to add the her 100th career point registered on Thursday evening against Bridgewater.

  • Kelly Polacek recorded five points (three goals, two assists).

  • Grace Kim added three points (two goals, one assist).

  • Katie Reed contributed two points (one goal, one assist) and controlled possession with a game-best five draw controls.

  • Taylor Bainbridge led the defensive effort with three ground balls and two caused turnovers.

  • Washington and Lee saw 11 different goal scorers and 15 individuals who recorded at least one point at Bridgewater.

  • Defensively, rookie Taylor Bainbridge registered three groundballs, two caused turnovers, and added one draw control to her stat sheet.

  • Iman Haddad, Hailey Sarno and Gabbi Bici combined for three saves in the win.
