CHICAGO -- University of Chicago freshman Maksim Mukhamedaliyev was tabbed as the UAA Wrestler of the Week for the third time in his career, as announced by the University Athletic Association on Monday afternoon.

Mukhamedaliyev was one of four Regional Champions for the Maroons this weekend as the freshman finished a perfect 4-0 to win the regional title at the 149-pound division.

The freshman earned a pair of tech falls in the opening rounds over Olivet (20-3) and Manchester (17-1). Then, in the semifinals, he pulled out a tough 13-7 win over Millikin to set up a high-powered showdown in the finals.

In the championship match, the Arlington Heights, Illinois native took down the #1 wrestler in the nation and a 2-time All-American from UW-Whitewater with a sudden victory takedown in overtime.

The Athlete of the Week award is the fourth of the career for Mukhamedaliyev, and it marks the ninth time this season that the University of Chicago earned the UAA Wrestler of the Week honor.

Mukhamedaliyev and four other members of the UChicago wrestling team have qualified for the 2026 NCAA Division III National Championships and will travel to Cedar Rapids, Iowa on March 13-14 for the National Championship meet.
