Corey Savedoff earned his second Athlete of the Week honor of the season after an excellent relief appearance for the Maroons, helping UChicago complete a perfect 4-0 week, and extending their win streak to a program-record 16 games.
On Friday night, the New City, New York native came out of the bullpen to throw 2.0 perfect innings, with four strikeouts against the six batters he faced for the Wheaton Thunder.
In his last four outings, the graduate student has thrown 5.1 innings with just three hits and one unearned run allowed. He has also struck out six batters and walked only two.
Luke Weston was incredible at the plate, tallying nine hits in 17 at-bats with 8 RBIs, 7 runs scored, and a trio of extra-base hits in four games this week.
The Irvine, California native tallied a slash line of .529 / .579 / .765 with an OPS of 1.344. In the win over Aurora, Weston came up with a huge two-out hit, driving in the game-tying and go-ahead runs with a two-RBI double. He also drove in four runs in the 8-1 win over Wheaton to open the series and added the game-winning RBI in the final game, sweeping the Thunder to stretch the UChicago win streak to 16.
Weston is riding a seven-game hitting streak, and he is 14-28 at the dish with 11 runs scored and 11 RBIs, and he has tallied a slash line of a .500 batting average, a .548 on-base percentage, a .679 slugging percentage, and a 1.227 OPS during that span.
The Pitcher of the Week award is the second of both the season and his career for Savedoff, and this marks the sixth time in the last seven weeks that the baseball team has been awarded the UAA Pitcher of the Week selection.
The Hitter of the Week selection for Weston is the first of both the season and his career, and these two Athlete of the Week honors are the 11th and 12th Athlete of the Week awards that the Maroons have earned this season.
Weston, Savedoff, and the rest of the UChicago baseball team wrapped up the regular season with a regular-season program-record 27 wins and the first conference championship in 113 years. The Maroons have earned an automatic spot in the 2026 NCAA Division III Tournament, and they await their postseason path during the NCAA Selection Show, airing on Monday, May 11, at 11 AM CT.
