MONTGOMERY, Ill. -- Not many times in your life can you say that you have been part of something that has not been done, but the University of Chicago baseball team can now say that. On what seemed to be a regular cold and windy night in the Chicago suburbs, the Maroons took down Aurora 9-4 in what could have been one of any four thousand non-conference games that are played every single year. However, this one was different.

After taking down the Aurora University Spartans 9-4, the University of Chicago baseball team became the first team to don the Maroons' jerseys to win 13 consecutive games. The win over the Spartans breaks the program record that had stood for over 130 years, when the 1895 team won 12 consecutive games to start the season.

The game did not start like the Maroons have started many games on this 13-game win streak, as UChicago did not score in the first six innings of action. Aurora pushed two runs across in the second, and they added one more in the sixth to take a 3-0 lead through six innings.

In the seventh, the UChicago offense finally came through. Following a

Jack Sharp walk,

Braden Jirovec reached on an Aurora error to put two runners on with two outs.

Erik Rindner then ripped a single into left field to bring home Sharp, and

Michael Gladden scored Jirovec with an RBI double down the left field line to cut the lead to one.

In the bottom of the inning, the Spartans loaded the bases on three straight singles and scored one run on a UChicago error. Then,

Charlie Hahn came into the game and slammed the door with a pair of strikeouts to keep the deficit at 4-2.

In the eighth,

Ryan Bhojwani singled and stole second, and

Max Wiesner brought him home with an RBI single to cut the lead to 4-3. Following a walk by

Harrison Belden and a sacrifice bunt by Sharp,

Luke Weston came up huge with a two-run triple into the right-center gap, giving the Maroons their first lead of the game. Rindner then doubled home Weston to put UChicago on top 6-4.

Charlie Hahn continued to roll in the eighth inning as he recorded five outs, overcoming a booted double play ball, to hold the lead in the eighth. In the ninth, Belden added the insurance runs for the Maroons as his two-run home run brought home Bhojwani and

Lucien Reed, and Weston added another extra-base hit with an RBI double to extend the lead to 9-4.

David Flanagan came in for the ninth inning and slammed the door shut with his seventh consecutive shutout appearance.

Connor Dong was excellent in his first career start, with 5.1 innings and two strikeouts while allowing three runs to keep the Maroons in the game. Hahn earned his first win of the season after throwing 1.2 shutout innings in relief.

At the dish,

Michael Gladden,

Erik Rindner, and

Luke Weston all led the offensive attack with three hits, and Weston added three RBIs.

Harrison Belden and Rindner also added two RBIs to lead the Maroons to victory.

With the win, the UAA champions improve to 24-13 overall on the season. UChicago will cap off its 2026 regular season this weekend as the Maroons travel to Carol Springs, Illinois, for a three-game series with the Wheaton Thunder.
