CHICAGO -- University of Chicago junior
David Flanagan earned a spot on the D3baseball.com National Team of the Week for the second consecutive week, as announced on Wednesday morning.
Flanagan was excellent in the four-game series against NYU, helping lead the Maroons to a four-game sweep, their first conference title since 1913, and a program-record 12-game winning streak. The 12-game win streak is tied for the longest in program history, joining the 1895 team.
In his three games pitched this week, the Huntington Woods, Michigan native retired all eight batters he faced, striking out three, and recorded saves in three of the five UChicago wins. He has now retired 15 consecutive batters in his last five appearances, with one win and four saves in those five outings.
The National Team of the Week selection is the second of both the season and career for Flanagan, and he joins Kyle Engel as the only players in UChicago baseball history to earn multiple D3baseball.com National Team of the Week selections as a Maroon.
Flanagan and the rest of the UChicago baseball team return to action tonight as the Maroons travel to Aurora for a non-conference showdown with the Spartans. First pitch is scheduled for 6 PM CT.
