NYU sophomore Victoria Wang has been selected to compete in the 2026 NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Championships. Hosted by The University of the South, the tournament is scheduled for May 22-25 at the Champions Tennis Club in Chattanooga, TN.
The individual championship will feature a field of 32 athletes, with selections based on win-loss records, strength of schedule, and eligibility.
Wang secured her spot with a 16-9 singles season record, earning Second Team All-UAA honors for her resilience and consistent performance. Her momentum began early in the academic year during the fall season, when she qualified for the ITA for the second consecutive year. Wang finished tied for 11th place nationally.
"Victoria had a lot of success in the fall, reaching the finals of our regional tournament and advancing to the ITA Cup, where she secured a key victory," said Head Coach Horace Choy.
Wang's selection was further bolstered by her clutch performance at the UAA Championship against Brandeis. With the team match score tied 3-3, the outcome rested entirely on her shoulders.
"Against Brandeis, she found herself down 3-0 and 4-0 in tiebreaks, but she fought back for her teammates," Choy added. "Her desire to not let the team down definitely propelled her to that victory."
On the men's side, graduate student Niklas von Hellens has been named the fourth alternate for the individual singles championship.
Von Hellens led the Violets this season with an 11-4 record, playing exclusively at the No. 1 position.
Under NCAA regulations, alternates are called into the bracket in sequential order should any selected player be unable to compete.
"I believe Niklas' level is highly competitive and he deserves to be there," said Choy. "His body of work and strength of schedule within our region were exceptional. I will always stand behind my player, and hopefully, things will work out for him to compete."
The official brackets for individual play are expected to be released in the coming days.
