First-year James O'Connor finished the contest two-for-four with two doubles and two stolen bases, while scoring one run and driving in a run.

Highlights & Scoring Recap

CWRU took a lead in the top of the first when Donahue led the inning off with a triple and scored on a two-out double by O'Connor.

John Carroll answered with three runs in the bottom of the first to take a two-run lead.

The Spartans had a quick response in the top of the second inning to take the lead back. Knutson singled with one out, moved to second on a two-out single by first-year Elijah Sledge, and scored on a base hit by Donahue. Graduate student Eli Westrick followed with a two-run double, scoring both Sledge and Donahue to put CWRU in front 4-3.

In the top of the third, senior Matt Trout doubled with one out and scored a batter later on a base hit by junior Nate Arterburn to give the Spartans a 5-3 advantage.

The Blue Streaks would go on to take the lead back with three runs in the bottom of the third and one in the fourth to go ahead 7-5.

Arterburn doubled with two outs in the fifth and came around to score on a run-scoring single from Knutson.

First-year Collin Pool was hit by a pitch to start the sixth, advanced to second on a balk, and scored on a double by Sledge to tie the game at 7-7.

After John Carroll scored in the bottom of the frame to take a one-run lead back, O'Connor opened the seventh with a double and scored on a base hit by Trout to tie the game again, and after loading the bases, Pool put the Spartans back in front with a sacrifice fly. Donahue added a two-run single later in the frame to give CWRU an 11-8 advantage.

John Carroll scored a run in the eighth and ninth innings, cutting the Spartans' lead to a run, but Shetty left the potential game-tying and winning runs on base to lock down the win for CWRU.
