Softball Defeats Brandeis 11-1 in Sunday Series Finale

The Case Western Reserve University softball team used a six-run first inning to defeat Brandeis University 11-1 in five innings in the finale of a three-game series at Mather Park in Cleveland on Sunday morning.

The Spartans improved to 21-12 this season and 9-6 in University Athletic Association games, while the Judges dropped to 20-17 overall and 7-9 in UAA contests.

• Senior pitcher Devanghi Misra (7-4) tossed her first career complete game, allowing just one run on five hits and two walks with three strikeouts

• Five different Spartans recorded a hit in the game

• Junior outfielder Alaina Steffes had three RBI, including two on a home run

• Junior infielder Karen Potts, first-year infielder Natalie Ching, and sophomore outfielder Ashley Miller each drove in a run

• After a scoreless top of the first, CWRU scored six times in the bottom of the frame on just two hits to take an insurmountable lead

• CWRU improved to 35-30 against Brandeis in the all-time series and 20-7 against the Judges since the start of UAA site play in 2017

• Potts has now reached base in 20 consecutive games

• Becker was hit by two pitches in the game, matching a program record she also tied on April 3 against Emory

• The Spartans had five steals by five different baserunners

• Eight of the nine Case Western Reserve starters scored a run

• Misra lowered her ERA for the season to 3.61
