Quick Start Powers Men’s Lacrosse to 18-6 Win Over Clark

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – MIT opened the game with nine unanswered goals en route to an 18-6 victory over Clark University in a NEWMAC men's lacrosse game on Saturday afternoon at Roberts Field at Steinbrenner Stadium. Oscar Lindenthal tallied three goals, one assist, three groundballs, and three caused turnovers for the Engineers while Eric Aswad generated two goals, two groundballs, and a caused turnover for the Cougars.

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – MIT opened the game with nine unanswered goals en route to an 18-6 victory over Clark University in a NEWMAC men's lacrosse game on Saturday afternoon at Roberts Field at Steinbrenner Stadium.

Oscar Lindenthal tallied three goals, one assist, three groundballs, and three caused turnovers for the Engineers while Eric Aswad generated two goals, two groundballs, and a caused turnover for the Cougars.

THE BASICS:

  • Score: MIT 18, Clark 6

  • Records: MIT (6-5 Overall, 3-1 NEWMAC); Clark (1-11 Overall, 0-4 NEWMAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Hayden Calabretta put MIT on the board after 51 seconds elapsed as the hosts would go on to score seven more goals by seven different players in the first quarter.

  • Calabretta kicked off the scoring in the second quarter after he connected on a pass from Zach Bleil after 39 seconds expired, giving the Engineers a 9-0 advantage. Thomas Michaud ended the shutout with a man-up goal that was set up by Michael Berman Annunziata at the 8:53 mark. The score remained unchanged until Calabretta completed the hat trick on a feed from Garrett Campagna with 3:34 left in the quarter.

  • MIT controlled the action in the third quarter as it produced five unanswered goals which increased the lead to 15-1. Lindenthal scored twice while Riley Pierce notched a goal and earned assists on blasts by Lindenthal and Dominic Zuniga.

  • The Cougars ended their scoring drought 1:04 into the fourth quarter on a strike from Brett Newman that was set up by Tate Gorman and then they quickly followed with a goal from Eric Palmieri. However, the Engineers produced back-to-back goals as Thomas Ludecke was a factor in both. First, he earned an assist on a goal by Theo Perkins and then he redirected a pass from Clark Burleson which made the score 17-3 at the 10:17 mark.

  • Palmieri buried a man-up goal with 6:41 left to play while Aswad followed with a pair of goals. Michael Blount registered the final goal of the day courtesy of a feed from Perkins.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

  • Pierce finished with one goal, four assists, and two groundballs as Calabretta totaled three goals, one assist, four groundballs, and one caused turnover.

  • Kaden Fenno was 10-of-14 in faceoff attempts and collected seven groundballs while Mason Prettyman won eight of his 13 faceoffs.

  • In net, Collin Lung totaled seven saves, three groundballs, and one caused turnover in 45 minutes of action as AJ Sachwitz made four saves in the fourth quarter.

  • Patrick O'Rourke was 8-of-18 in faceoffs and corralled five groundballs while Newman recorded one goal, two groundballs, and one caused turnover.

  • Josh Reno made two saves in the first quarter as Luca Palleschi compiled 12 saves, one groundball, and one caused turnover.

UP NEXT:

  • Both teams will be back in action on Saturday, April 11 against NEWMAC opponents.

  • MIT will host the U.S. Coast Guard Academy at 1:00 PM while Clark will travel to Salve Regina University for a 2:00 PM start.
