The MIT women's openweight crew's first varsity eight received honorable mention for the Patriot League Boat of the Week, following a strong performance at the MIT/BC Cup. The crew, consisting of C. Michelle Peng, Kayla Robertson, Lucy Greenup, Emma Hopkins, Brooke Birdsall, Shriya Thakur, Madeleine Laws, Darin Wilkowski, and Elizabeth Jackson, secured a runner-up finish, narrowly missing first place to UMass by just 2.5 seconds. This victory marks the second consecutive year that MIT has claimed the MIT/BC Cup, reinforcing their competitive edge as they prepare for their final race against Bates College this weekend, leading up to the Patriot League Women's Rowing Championship on May 15.
In baseball, the Engineers faced a challenging matchup against No. 3 Salve Regina, where they initially took a 2-0 lead in the second inning. However, Salve Regina responded decisively, scoring eight runs in their half of the inning and ultimately winning 12-4 in a NEWMAC contest. This defeat highlights the ongoing struggles for the baseball team as they continue to seek consistency in their play.
Meanwhile, the MIT men's volleyball team concluded a historic season, achieving the program's first NCAA Tournament victory and advancing to the quarterfinals. After defeating St. Joseph's (Long Island) and upsetting No. 4 Stevens, the Engineers faced No. 5 California Lutheran, where they fell in a closely contested fifth set despite a standout performance from Nate Toth, who recorded 17 kills. MIT finished the season with a commendable 24-8 record, marking a significant chapter in their athletic history.
