The Amherst College men's track and field team made history this weekend by winning its first NESCAC Championship, amassing a total of 159 points. The Mammoths showcased their depth and talent across various events, highlighted by three school records. Michael Abbey Jr. led the charge, breaking the school record in the triple jump with a leap of 14.90 meters and also contributing points in the long jump. The team’s performance established them as not just contenders but champions, marking a significant milestone in the program’s history.
The Amherst women's track and field team also had a strong showing at the NESCAC Championships, finishing third overall with 131 points. Myeh Medina was a standout performer, winning the individual title in the 100-meter hurdles and securing a second place finish in the 400-meter hurdles. Teammates Anastasia Ioppolo and Arissa Grace McGowan contributed valuable points in the hurdles, showcasing the team's collective strength across disciplines.
In baseball, the Mammoths concluded their regular season with a 9-2 loss to Wheaton College. A challenging first inning set the tone for the game, as Amherst fell behind early and could not recover. Despite the setback, the team finished the regular season with a 22-11 record and is set to host Colby in a best-of-three NESCAC Tournament quarterfinal series starting Friday at 3 p.m.
The men's golf team finished tied for fourth at the NESCAC Championships, concluding the tournament with a three-day total of +56 over par. Freshman Thomas Zhang led the Mammoths with a strong performance, shooting even par on the final day and finishing in 10th place overall. The team will now await news on a potential bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament.
In swimming and diving, Maeve Kelley and Donna Zhang were recognized as College Sports Communicators Academic All-Americans. Kelley, an Economics major with a 3.86 GPA, excelled in multiple events at the NCAA Championships, while Zhang's contributions as a senior diver also earned her this prestigious honor.
