The Caltech women's tennis team secured its spot in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) semifinals with a 6-1 victory over Occidental College on April 26. The match, held on Senior Day, celebrated the contributions of graduating senior Anna Szczuka, who, along with her doubles partner Aoi Kunimoto, won the team's first doubles match 6-4. Despite losing the other doubles matches, Caltech rallied in singles play, with standout performances from sophomore Naya Kessman, who won 6-1, 6-0, and first-year Tara Zhan, who added a 6-2, 6-1 victory to put the Beavers ahead. Junior Hannah Ramsperger and senior Anna Szczuka also contributed to the team's success, ensuring a strong finish to the match.
On the men's side, the Caltech men's tennis team also clinched a postseason berth with a commanding 6-1 win against Occidental on April 25. This victory marked a significant rebound after a challenging previous week. The Beavers showcased their dominance from the outset, winning both doubles matches, including a flawless 6-0 victory from the #2 pairing of Constantin Cedillo-Vayson de Pradenne and Tejas Ram. Senior Andrew Zabelo and junior Eric He also secured a 6-2 win in #1 Doubles. In singles, Cedillo-Vayson de Pradenne, Ram, and first-year Michael Gao all won their matches in straight sets, solidifying the team's place in the upcoming SCIAC Championships. Both teams will look to build on their momentum as they enter postseason play.
