The Princeton men's lacrosse team continues its strong season, defeating Marist 17-8 in the opening round of the NCAA tournament on May 10. The top-seeded Tigers showcased their offensive prowess, particularly in the third quarter, where they outscored Marist 8-0, extending their lead from 8-4 at halftime to 16-4 by the end of the period. This victory marks Princeton's third quarterfinal appearance in five years, and they will face Penn State next, a rematch from earlier in the season when they lost 13-7. Notably, this season's team has set a program record with 238 goals, emphasizing their offensive dominance throughout the year. Chad Palumbo and Nate Kabiri were instrumental in the win, continuing their standout performances as they were recently named First-Team All-Americans.
In softball, the Tigers captured the Ivy League Tournament title, sweeping through the competition with an 8-0 victory over Columbia on May 9. This win secures Princeton's third NCAA tournament appearance in five seasons and the program's second Ivy League Tournament championship since its inception in 2023. The decisive game featured a strong offensive display, with Abby Hornberger and Jessica Phelps contributing key hits to break the game open. Earlier in the tournament, Princeton rallied from a 4-0 deficit against Brown to win 7-5, showcasing their resilience and determination. The Tigers will learn their NCAA tournament destination during the selection show on May 10.
The women's lacrosse team faced a heartbreaking end to their season, losing 12-11 to Rutgers in the first round of the NCAA tournament on May 8. Despite a valiant effort, including a strong performance from Meg Morrisroe, who scored four goals, the Tigers could not complete a late-game comeback. The loss marked a disappointing conclusion to a season where they had previously defeated Rutgers earlier in the year. Amelia Hughes made ten saves in goal, but the team could not capitalize on their offensive opportunities in the final moments, ending their NCAA run prematurely.
