The Case Western Reserve University softball team concluded its regular season on a high note, defeating Heidelberg University 5-2 on May 3. First-year catcher Sophia Becker shone brightly, hitting two solo home runs, marking her first career game with multiple homers. Junior infielder Kaelyn Zusi also contributed with a solo shot and two runs scored. First-year pitcher Camryn Mclelland secured the win, allowing two runs over four innings while striking out seven. Senior pitcher Devanghi Misra closed out the game with three perfect innings, earning her second save of the year. The Spartans finished the regular season with a 24-12 record, poised for potential postseason play.
In baseball, the Spartans wrapped up their season with an 11-10 victory against John Carroll University on the same day, ending the year with a 20-19 overall record. The Spartans showcased their offensive strength with 15 hits, including multiple extra-base hits. Senior Sean Donahue led the charge, going three-for-five with a triple, two runs, and three RBIs. First-year Jaxon Knutson also had a strong performance, going three-for-four with two runs and an RBI. Sophomore Jeff Radinsky picked up the win in relief, while classmate Ayush Shetty earned a save, marking a successful finish to a challenging season.
Meanwhile, three members of the CWRU track and field teams participated in the Jesse Owens Classic held at Ohio State University. Senior Jack Blais placed 10th in the long jump with a distance of 6.36 meters, while first-year Anna Callo tied for 18th in the pole vault, clearing 3.46 meters. On the following day, senior Anthony DeCarlo finished 10th in the pole vault, achieving a height of 4.61 meters. The squad will continue to seek qualifying marks at the Harrison Dillard Twilight meet on May 7 and 8 in Berea, Ohio.
