In men's rowing, the No. 2 MIT lightweight crew faced a challenging matchup against No. 1 Harvard for the Haines Cup on the same day. Despite a spirited effort, the Engineers were edged out in the varsity eight race, with Harvard retaining the cup in a closely contested event on the Severn River.
On the lacrosse front, both the men's and women's teams secured victories on April 18. The men's team defeated Wheaton College 20-11, thanks to a late surge that included a 5-1 run in the final minutes, led by Riley Pierce, who scored six goals. Meanwhile, the No. 25 women's lacrosse team triumphed over the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, 14-7, with Nina Petulla contributing a game-high five goals, including a strong second-half performance that sealed the win.
In baseball, the Engineers faced a setback against the University of Southern Maine on April 19, losing 10-2. Despite rookie Dalton Chi's home run and two runs scored, MIT could not overcome a late-game surge from Southern Maine that included six runs in the sixth and seventh innings.
The MIT men's track and field team hosted the Sean Collier Invitational over the weekend, where they showcased their talent with multiple event wins. Notably, Anthony Meng achieved a top ten national mark in the high jump, while Owen Sondag claimed victory in the 5000m race. The women's team also competed, with Kate Sanderson winning the 10,000m title, although details on their performance were not fully available due to a reporting error.
