The Williams College women's lacrosse team achieved a significant milestone by advancing to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament following an 11-10 victory over William Smith College on May 10. The Ephs, now holding an 11-7 record, faced a tough challenge against the Herons, ranked fifth nationally. Sydney Puntus scored a crucial player-up goal late in the game, giving Williams an 11-9 lead. Despite a late push from William Smith, the Ephs' defense held firm to secure the win. Katy McCullough led the offense with three goals, contributing to a five-goal run that shifted the momentum in Williams' favor.
In contrast, the Williams men's lacrosse team concluded its NCAA tournament run with a 14-10 loss to Wesleyan University in the Sweet 16 on May 10. After falling behind 6-1 in the first half, the Ephs mounted a comeback, with Jack Sartorius scoring a hat trick. However, despite narrowing the gap to 7-5 at halftime, Williams could not sustain the momentum, ultimately falling to the Cardinals.
The Williams College softball team advanced to the NESCAC semifinals after a 2-1 victory against Bowdoin on May 9. The Ephs took the lead in the third inning when Dani Jackman drew a bases-loaded walk, scoring Lauren Davis. An insurance run in the fifth inning from Haley Barrett solidified the win, with Sadie Leonard earning her 15th victory of the season in the circle, striking out nine batters.
In track and field, the Ephs hosted their final home meet of the outdoor season at the F.I.R.E. Meet, celebrating Senior Day. The women’s team saw standout performances, including Kate Tuttle setting a new school record in the 1500 meters with a time of 4:24.47. The men’s team also showcased strong performances, with Desmond Snyder achieving personal bests in multiple events during the decathlon, and Zachary Liu-Walter winning the 800 meters.
Meanwhile, the Williams men's golf team celebrated a successful season, with first-year Nick Smith earning both NESCAC Golfer of the Year and Rookie of the Year honors. Smith's performance at the conference championship helped secure the Ephs' 14th title. The team will compete in the NCAA Tournament from May 12-15 in Florida.
The Williams rowing teams are gearing up for the National Invitational Rowing Championship/NESCAC Championship, with both the men's and women's first varsity eights earning medals at the New England Rowing Championship. The men's team secured a bronze, while the women's team took silver, as they prepare for their upcoming championship races.
Lastly, Williams announced the hiring of Ryne Morrison as the new head wrestling coach, bringing a wealth of experience from his previous role at St. John Fisher University. Morrison's appointment marks a new chapter for the Ephs as they look to strengthen their wrestling program.
