The Bates women's rowing team captured its eighth NESCAC title, winning the championship at the National Invitational Rowing Championship on May 10. The first varsity eight, led by sophomore coxswain Leah Brody and stroke seat Virginia Adams, triumphed with a time of 7:06.210, finishing ahead of Williams by more than two seconds. The second varsity eight contributed to the overall points with a fourth-place finish, marking the first time in Bates history that three different teams have won the NESCAC title in the same academic year, joining field hockey and women's basketball.
In men's lacrosse, the No. 15 Bobcats' season ended with a 14-12 loss to undefeated Hope College in the third round of the NCAA Division III Championship on May 10. Bates (12-6) dominated possession, outshooting Hope 57-31 and winning 25 faceoffs, but 20 turnovers proved costly. The Bobcats started strong, taking a 4-1 lead in the second quarter, but Hope's resilience led to their eventual victory, advancing to the national quarterfinals.
The Bates track and field teams competed at the annual F.I.R.E. Meet at Williams College over the weekend. For the men, senior captain Ross Tejeda achieved a personal best in the 1,500 meters, placing eighth overall, while senior Evan Migdole took fourth in the 400-meter hurdles. The women's team saw first-year Alisandra Lindos finish as the runner-up in the triple jump, and senior captain Moriah Scharn placed fourth in the 100-meter hurdles. Both teams will send select athletes to the MIT Final Qualifier this Thursday.
Bates softball concluded its season with a heartbreaking 3-2 loss to second-seeded Middlebury in the NESCAC Championship quarterfinals on May 9. The Bobcats (17-19) held a 2-1 lead late in the game but were unable to secure the win, with Middlebury tying the game in the seventh and winning in the eighth inning. Junior Zariya Anderson and sophomore Emily Kennedy were key contributors to Bates' offensive efforts throughout the game.
