The Washington University in St. Louis women's tennis team received significant recognition this week with three players and coaches honored by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA). Senior Eliana Hanna was named the ITA Senior Player of the Year, while senior Amber Edmonds earned the Arthur Ashe Leadership and Sportsmanship Award. Assistant coach Erin Swaller was recognized as the ITA Assistant Coach of the Year. Hanna has excelled in her final season, holding a 12-5 record in singles and a 25-5 record in doubles alongside sophomore Ally Lin. Edmonds, who has a 13-4 overall record, has also made notable contributions off the court as a leader in various student organizations.
The No. 7 WashU softball team is gearing up for its NCAA Regional, which it will host for the third consecutive year. The tournament begins on May 14 and features UW-Oshkosh, Illinois College, and Capital. The Bears are making their 19th NCAA Tournament appearance, and they will aim to advance to the Super Regional next weekend. Earlier this week, the team also celebrated its achievements at the All-UAA awards, where junior Maria Brooks was named Pitcher of the Year and first-year outfielder Julia Sullo took home Rookie of the Year honors. Brooks, who boasts a perfect 16-0 record this season, leads the Bears' strong pitching staff.
In women's golf, the Bears earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Championships, marking a successful season that included three tournament victories. The championships will take place from May 19-22 at Desert Willow Golf Resort in Palm Desert, California. The Bears, consistently ranked in the Top 10 nationally, will compete for both team and individual titles, with hopes of advancing past the initial rounds to secure a spot in the final competition.
