Dorian Glogovac, a first-year player for the Caltech men’s basketball team, has been named the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Newcomer of the Year. Glogovac, who hails from Vancouver, British Columbia, led the conference in scoring with an impressive average of 22.7 points per game. He also ranked second in three-pointers made, seventh in rebounding, and was among the top ten in free-throw and field goal percentage. His performance throughout the season, including playing the most minutes of any player in the league, has drawn praise from Head Coach Dr. Oliver Eslinger, who highlighted the significance of Glogovac's contributions to the team.
In swimming and diving, both the men's and women's teams celebrated individual accolades at the SCIAC championships. Diya Kumar received the SCIAC Women's Swim & Dive Character Award, recognizing her contributions beyond the pool. Meanwhile, Nina Aballea of Pomona-Pitzer Colleges was honored as the Athlete of the Year after setting a new SCIAC record in the 200-yard freestyle and leading her relay team to a record-setting performance in the 800 Free Relay. On the men's side, Simon Hu earned the SCIAC Men's Swim & Dive Character Award, while Honza Zika of Whittier College and Tommy Matheis of Pomona-Pitzer were named Athlete and Diver of the Year, respectively. Matheis achieved remarkable scores in both the 1-meter and 3-meter events, further solidifying his status as a top competitor. The swimming and diving teams will now look ahead to potential NCAA Championship qualifications for their standout performers.
