The Bowdoin College women's basketball team saw its season come to a close with a 67-59 defeat against the University of Southern Maine in the NCAA Division III Tournament's second round on March 8. After a strong defensive showing in their first-round victory over Emmanuel College, the Polar Bears (25-3) faced a formidable opponent in the Huskies, who advanced to the Sweet Sixteen for the first time since 2007. Bowdoin managed to narrow the gap multiple times in the second half, coming within a point on four occasions, but could not regain the lead. Notable performances included three-pointers from Rachel Storey and Carly Davey, as well as a late effort from Melissa Leone, whose shot brought the score to 54-53 with just over four minutes remaining.
In individual accolades, Bowdoin's Abbie Quinn and Grace Kinum were named First Team All-New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC), recognizing their standout performances throughout the season. Quinn averaged a league-best 16.9 points per game, while Kinum's all-around contributions included 13.7 points, 6.7 rebounds, and 4.2 assists per game. The Polar Bears finished the NESCAC season undefeated at 10-0.
Meanwhile, the Bowdoin men's hockey team faced a heartbreaking end to their NESCAC Championship run with a 3-2 overtime loss to Middlebury on March 8. The Polar Bears, who entered the tournament as the second seed, took an early lead with a goal from Bryce Bollman, assisted by Louie Marcellino. However, Middlebury's resilience saw them equalize and ultimately secure the victory, advancing to the finals against Williams. Bowdoin concluded their season with an overall record of 18-7-1, having previously defeated Amherst in the quarterfinals. The Polar Bears will look to regroup and build on this year's performance as they prepare for the next season.
