Columbia University wrestling has concluded a remarkable season, highlighted by the recognition of Andrew F. Barth Head Coach Donny Pritzlaff as the 2026 NCAA Division I Men's National Coach of the Year. Under Pritzlaff's leadership, the Lions achieved an 11-3 dual meet record, including a perfect 5-0 in Ivy League competition, marking the program's first regular-season conference title since 1981-82. The team also secured a runner-up finish at the Ivy League Championships, with three individual champions and a record seven wrestlers qualifying for the NCAA Championships. At the national level, Columbia set a program record with 25 team points, bolstered by Cesar Alvan's impressive third-place finish at 165 pounds, making him the seventh All-American in the program's history.
Cesar Alvan's journey through the NCAA Championships showcased his resilience and skill. He began the tournament with a decisive 12-2 major decision over SIUE's Brock Woodcock, followed by a thrilling overtime victory against fifth-seeded LaDarion Lockett, where Alvan secured a win by fall. In the semifinals, however, he faced top-seeded Mitchell Mesenbrink of Penn State, succumbing to a 15-0 technical fall. Alvan's performance not only earned him All-American honors but also underscored the significant strides Columbia wrestling has made this season. Looking ahead, the Lions will aim to build on this momentum as they prepare for the next competitive season.
