The Bates women's basketball team saw its impressive season come to an end on March 15, falling to the undefeated University of Scranton Royals, 76-59, in the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Division III Championship. The Bobcats, ranked No. 12 nationally, concluded the year with a program-record 26 wins and a second NESCAC title. Senior captain Elsa Daulerio led the team with 18 points, finishing her career with 1,375 points, the sixth-most in program history. Fellow seniors Sophie Spolter and Ava James contributed 16 and 10 points, respectively, in their final appearances for Bates.
In men's basketball news, junior Babacar Pouye earned first team All-State honors from the Maine Men's Basketball Coaches and Writers Association, adding to his accolades after being named first team All-NESCAC. Pouye averaged 14.2 points and 8 rebounds per game this season, showcasing his growth alongside the team, which reached the NESCAC semifinals for the first time since 2012.
The Bates women's lacrosse team faced a challenging matchup against No. 8 Amherst on March 15, suffering a 12-4 defeat. The Bobcats initially took the lead with a goal from Sarah Stavrovich just 33 seconds into the game, but the Mammoths quickly responded and maintained control throughout the match. Stavrovich added a second goal later in the game, but Bates could not overcome the deficit.
On the men's side, the No. 16 Bates lacrosse team also experienced a setback, losing 20-8 to No. 17 Amherst. Riley McClure scored three goals for the Bobcats, but Amherst's strong start and decisive third quarter proved too much to handle, ending Bates' six-game winning streak.
In track and field, the Bates men's Distance Medley Relay team placed 11th at the NCAA Division III Indoor Championships in Birmingham, Alabama, with a time of 10:01.99. The team, consisting of Nate Roberts, Evan Migdole, Callahan Porter, and Miles Logan, finished just behind Tufts and ahead of Haverford. Meanwhile, 16 athletes from the women's indoor track and field team earned USTFCCCA All-Region honors, including the 4x400 relay team, which recorded the fourth-fastest time in Bates history at 3:57.10.
As the softball season approaches, the Bobcats are set to begin their 2026 campaign in Florida, where they will play 10 games over six days, starting with matchups against Alverno and UMass Dartmouth on March 19. Senior captain Delaney Rankin leads an experienced team that includes four All-NESCAC selections, aiming for a successful season ahead.
