Earlier in the week, the Mammoths secured an 11-8 win against Connecticut College, showcasing a strong start that included a 7-1 halftime lead. They will now look to build on this momentum in their upcoming match against Bowdoin on Saturday.
In women's lacrosse, the No. 5 Mammoths continued their strong season with a 13-9 victory over No. 19 Williams. After falling behind 3-0 early, Amherst rallied with a 6-1 run to take control of the game. Mia Raven and Bridget Darcy each recorded four points, leading the way for the Mammoths, who improved to 11-1 overall and 6-1 in NESCAC play. They will host Westfield State for their final non-conference game on Tuesday.
The Amherst College softball team faced challenges over the weekend, suffering losses in a doubleheader against Colby College and dropping a series to Tufts University. In the first game against Colby, the Mammoths fell 13-6 despite a strong start, and in the second game, they lost 5-1. Earlier, they battled back in a game against Tufts, forcing extra innings with a five-run rally before ultimately losing 8-5. The Mammoths, now 7-15 overall and 3-7 in NESCAC play, will look to rebound in a doubleheader against Springfield College on Wednesday.
On the golf course, both the men's and women's teams had promising starts in their respective tournaments. The men's team leads the Dr. Tim Brown Invitational after day one, with sophomore Andre Zhang tied for second individually after shooting a 72. The women's team, competing in the Jack Leaman Invitational, also performed well, with their A team sitting in a tie for second place, led by freshman Grace Zhan's impressive 72. Both teams will continue their competitions on Sunday.
In hockey news, senior goaltender Natalie Stott and defender Gretchen Dann earned First Team honors from DIII Hockey News, while forward Maeve Reynolds was named to the Third Team. Stott's remarkable season included a .970 save percentage and 12 shutouts, setting NCAA DIII records for career shutouts and wins. These accolades reflect the strong performance of the women's ice hockey team, which reached the NESCAC Championship and the Final Four this season.
Additionally, senior football player Miles Harmon received the Desmond "Tuss" McLaughry Award, recognizing him as the top collegiate student-athlete in Western Massachusetts. Harmon, a biochemistry and biophysics major with a 3.97 GPA, has been a standout player and leader for the Mammoths throughout his career.
