The MIT softball team extended its winning streak to 11 games after sweeping Clark University in a NEWMAC doubleheader on April 11. In the first game, MIT secured a 4-1 victory, driven by Delaney Benevides' aggressive base running and Ava Ladd's timely sacrifice fly. The Engineers added to their lead with a three-run fourth inning, highlighted by Julia Mattiace's sacrifice fly. In the second game, MIT dominated with a 6-0 win, where Ladd contributed again with an RBI. The Engineers now hold a record of 23-3 overall and 9-1 in the NEWMAC, solidifying their position in the conference.
On the track, both the men's and women's teams competed at the Tufts Invitational over the weekend. The No. 11 women's team saw Lilia Ould-Hammou win the shot put and Macy Brennan take the discus title, while Katie Kempff moved into the national top 25 in the triple jump. JoJo Miller led the track events with a sixth-place finish in the 100m, earning a New England DIII qualifying time. The No. 17 men's team also had strong performances, with Anthony Meng and Jaden McKee each finishing second in their respective events, helping them climb the national rankings. Meng cleared 2.02 meters in the high jump, while McKee vaulted 4.95 meters, both achieving NE DIII qualifying marks.
The track teams also competed at the Friar Invitational on April 11, where Krystal Montgomery placed fourth in the invitational 800m, running the fastest Division III time in the region this season. The next competitions for both track teams will be the NEWMAC Championships, where they aim to build on their recent successes.
