The University of Chicago women's track and field team excelled at the Wheaton 'Don Church' Twilight Invitational, capturing first place with five event titles and twelve top-two finishes. Freshman Katrina Bauer highlighted the meet with a career-best performance in the Triple Jump, registering a mark of 10.98 meters, the seventh-best by a UChicago freshman. Yichen Ding added to the team's success by winning the Javelin Throw with a throw of 33.52 meters. Nora Holmes and Emma Kelly also contributed with victories in the 1500m and 800m runs, respectively, while the 4x400m Relay team of Lauren Moskal, Camila Garanton, Olivia Resnick, and Kelly clinched the final title with a time of 4:09.20. The Maroons will next compete at the UAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Cleveland on April 25-26.
The men's track and field team mirrored their female counterparts with a strong showing at the same invitational, finishing first with eight event wins and seventeen top-two finishes. Paul Sackman delivered an impressive performance, winning both the 100m and 200m dashes with times that rank among the best in UChicago history. His 100m time of 10.43 seconds is the second-fastest ever recorded by a Maroon. Owen Mays also had a standout day, sweeping the hurdles events, and Michael Nelson secured victory in the Javelin Throw. The team also won the 4x100m Relay, further solidifying their dominance at the meet.
In softball, the Maroons faced a challenging start to their series against Case Western Reserve, suffering an 11-3 defeat. Despite a strong beginning from pitcher Nicole Wong, who managed to escape early threats, the Spartans broke through with a five-run third and fourth inning. UChicago showed resilience with back-to-back home runs from Lakyn Wilkinson and Olivia Cataldo in the fourth, but it was not enough to overcome the deficit. The team will look to rebound in the remaining games of the series as they continue their UAA schedule.
