Lafayette College's softball team is heading to the Patriot League Tournament for the first time since 2012, buoyed by the outstanding performance of senior Kylee Sweet. Sweet, who started every game this season at first base, earned a spot on the All-Patriot League Second Team after leading the Leopards with a .349 batting average, .951 OPS, and 23 RBIs. Her contributions were pivotal in a recent series win over archrival Lehigh, which secured Lafayette's fourth seed in the tournament. The Leopards will face No. 1 seed Boston University on Thursday, May 11, at noon, with hopes of advancing further in the double-elimination event.
In baseball, Lafayette concluded its season with a series against Holy Cross, highlighted by the recognition of junior catcher Brandon Doubek and freshman pitcher Gregory Quintana. Doubek was named the Player of the Week in the Patriot League after driving in four runs and hitting two home runs last week, finishing the season with a .308 batting average and a team-leading nine home runs. Quintana, who earned his first collegiate win in a 3-1 victory over Holy Cross, was honored as the Rookie of the Week, showcasing his potential with a solid performance throughout the season.
The men's tennis team also saw success this week, with freshman Ricardo Espaillat earning All-Patriot League Second Team honors in his inaugural season. Balancing a demanding neuroscience curriculum with his athletic commitments, Espaillat has made a significant impact on the court while also engaging in leadership roles, such as serving on the Executive Board for the Neuroscience Club.
Finally, the men's hockey program celebrated its achievements at the annual PARDees, where it was recognized as Team of the Year after capturing its eighth Patriot League title last fall. The event highlighted the academic and athletic accomplishments of all student-athletes, with special recognition given to standout performers like Raffi Fragomeni from field hockey and Eric Axtman from men's soccer, both of whom excelled academically while contributing to their teams.
