The Engineers struggled to maintain pace as Smith utilized a decisive 14-5 run in the second half to pull away. Mary Lobon contributed significantly with a game-high 11 rebounds, alongside nine points, while Ruth Lanouette, who had recently been named the New England Women's Basketball Association Rookie of the Week, led the team with 12 points in a previous game against Springfield. In that match on February 19, MIT secured a narrow 51-49 victory, thanks to clutch plays from Rachael Zacks and Lobon in the closing moments.
In men's basketball, MIT faced a tough defeat against Babson on February 19, losing 61-49. Timmy Mulvey was the standout for the Engineers, scoring 22 points, while Parker Spann recorded a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds. The loss marked a challenging stretch for the team as they look to regroup before the postseason.
The MIT men's squash team, ranked No. 12, also encountered a setback, falling 6-3 to No. 13 Williams on February 21. The match showcased a competitive clash between the two top-15 teams, but MIT could not secure enough victories to clinch the win. As the season progresses, both basketball teams and the squash squad will seek to build momentum heading into their respective playoffs and championships.
