Earlier in the week, UChicago also extended its winning streak to 14 games with an 8-1 victory over Wheaton, powered by a strong pitching performance that limited the Thunder to just four hits. The Maroons' 13-game win streak, which included a 9-4 victory against Aurora, marked the longest in program history, surpassing a record set in 1895. This successful stretch positions the team favorably as they prepare for the upcoming conference tournament.
The University of Chicago softball team had a mixed weekend, splitting a doubleheader against New York University on May 3 during Senior Day festivities. The Maroons fell 9-7 in the first game but rebounded with an 11-3 victory in the second. In the opener, a grand slam by Olivia Cataldo highlighted a comeback attempt, though UChicago could not overcome a large early deficit. In the second game, Nicole Wong delivered a strong performance on the mound, leading the Maroons to a comfortable win as they honored their seniors.
In track and field, the men's team celebrated significant achievements at the UAA Outdoor Championships. In basketball, Michelle Gardner-Bilek and Mike McGrath were recognized as IBCA Coaches of the Year, capping off successful seasons for their respective programs. Gardner-Bilek led the women's team to the National Quarterfinals, achieving a 20-win season, while McGrath guided the men's team to a strong performance in the UAA.
